Oh, hey!

Welcome to our blog! For our first post, I wanted to introduce myself and the team, so read on to learn more about us!

The Humans

I’m Kacie, the main artist and author of our blog posts and newsletters. I’m also usually the human behind the table at in-person events, so we may have already met! While I don’t have an official source of inspiration for my artworks, I do get excited about certain color combinations, fonts, and materials, and the things that excite me change pretty often, so I just follow wherever that exciting creative feeling takes me. Sometimes it ends up going nowhere, and sometimes I make something that I really love, and that’s when I share it with the rest of the world!

Meg is my wife and the technical brain behind everything we make. She maintains our equipment and does small-scale tests of things before we do an official production run. Meg also comes up with ideas for artwork and creates some of her own, like our watercolor iris sticker, which she painted by hand, scanned into her computer in high-resolution, and had made into stickers!

Meg and I met in college while we were both pursuing our fine arts degrees in 3D animation and graphic design, respectively. We live in Colorado and produce most of our products from our basement and garage (the exception being our stickers, which are professionally printed for the best quality).

You likely won’t see many pictures of the two of us on our website or social media, simply because we value our privacy when it comes to what we share on the internet. But I promise there are two very real, genuine humans behind this blog and online shop!

The Cats

The other half of our team is made up of our three cats. Juno is a dark gray tabby, who we adopted in the fall of 2019 through a friend of a friend. In early 2022 we welcomed Willow, our light gray tabby, who we adopted from a different friend of a friend. And most recently, in September of this year, the lovely lady who fostered Willow reached out to me about a litter of kittens she had taken in, and now we have Evie, our little void kitty! Our three girls are a handful, but the joy they bring to our lives is worth it.

The Name

Citrine Sea combines earth and water, warm orange hues with cool teal. Citrine is a variety of quartz, with a beautiful golden color that feels really warm and positive to me. As for the other half of the name, I love the ocean. When I was growing up, I was fortunate to be able to spend a lot of time in the summers with my extended family on the east coast of the US, which always included beach days. Invoking the ocean in our business name makes it feel a little closer, even though we are at least 1,000 miles from the nearest coast.

What’s Next?

We are still very much a small business that we are putting our time into between full-time jobs and spending time with each other and with our families and friends. But we’re so excited to be here and to be able to share our art with you! We have cool new stuff coming that I can’t wait to add to the shop, and I’ll be sharing more information soon about our next in-person event!

Thanks for reading, and if you have anything you would like to ask or share, please leave us a comment!
